Last up on my series of articles on self care essentials is skin. If you haven’t read the previous articles, check out my recommendations for body care and hair care.

My skin care routine during quarantine has largely stayed the same. Every Sunday, I do a lengthy routine that involves masks, derma rolling, etc… My daily skin care routine is pretty much identical to what I’ve posted 6 years ago when I detailed how I cleared my acne scars (Clairsonic + Sibu Soap + Papaya Mask on Sunday).

The items below are some things I’d suggest adding to a weekly skincare routine for a bit of extra TLC.

  • Derma Roller– This is the newest addition to my skin care routine and it’s made a huge difference in the elasticity of my skin. I’m in my 30s and I noticed that the skin on my neck was showing some age. To reverse this, I bought a derma roller that I now use almost weekly. I did quite a bit of research to learn how to use it- including prepping the skin and sterilising the tool. During quarantine, I decided to grow my eyebrows out completely after decades of plucking and threading. Micro needling is said to promote hair growth so I’m paying extra attention to my brow area.
  • Stone Roller– A jade or quartz roller face massage is a great way to relax and unwind. You can put them in the fridge for an added cooling sensation. If you’re into crystals and meaning, cleanse and charge them before use.
  • Serums– I got into serums a few years ago. They are great little shots of skincare ingredients for the skin. The best eye serum I’ve used for my slight dark circles is the Elizabeth Arden Ceramide Capsules. For my face, I like to experiment with serums from The Ordinary. The products are affordable so if something doesn’t work for you, it’s not a problem. They also have a generous return policy. The Hyaluronic acid serum has been a repeat purchase for me. I’ve recently introduced a collagen serum that I use on my lips and neck after derma rolling.
  • Masks– My favorite mask for clear and bright skin is the Papaya Enyzme mask that I’ve used for around 6 years now. It’s a tried and true staple for me. Another favorite for a quick skin turnaround is the Ordinary Peeling Solution. Leave it on for no more than 10 minutes for smooth and radiant skin. A regular clay mask or sheet mask are also great options. I tend to go for more acidic ingredients in my masks to help with hyperpigmentation.
  • Lip Exfoliator- I’m someone with incredibly dry skin and my lips often get chapped and crack. Occasionally, I use a muslin cloth to exfoliate but that can be drying as well. I like the lip scrub from ELF as an affordable sugar scrub option. Sugar scrubs are also easy to make if you’re into DIYs. As stated above, no more than weekly, I derma roll my lips and use a collagen serum to keep them plump and supple.

I’ve linked some options from Amazon below. Please keep in mind that these products may have harsh ingredients in them. Research before purchasing and using them.
