While there are many downsides to being at home at the moment, it does give some of us more time to be a little more indulgent with self care. Alternatively, if you’re a key worker in need of some ways to destress, that may include some self care.

I’m currently working from home and really enjoying have the extra time that I would normally spend getting ready and commuting. I’m taking advantage of this by adding a few more steps to my usual self care routine.

Here are some things I’m doing regularly to care for my body.

  • Dry Brushing– as I’ve aged, I’ve noticed more cellulite on my thighs. After searching online, I recently bought a dry brush to help minimize the appearance of cellulite. I dry brush in the direction of lymph nodes once a day. I’ve only started last week so I can’t comment on the results but if it works it’s a quick and easy step to reduce the appearance of cellulite.
  • Bath Milk– Once a week, I trade my usual 10 minute shower for a relaxing bath . I am a bit OCD though, so I like for the water to be opaque. For this, I use a bath milk which is usually a white cream product with various benefits for the skin. Alternatively, bath bombs can be used but they usually don’t change the opacity of water. I’m not picky about the brand but I’d recommend trying a bath milk if like me, the thought of seeping in hot water turns you off just a bit.
  • Sugar Scrub– My favorite sugar scrub is from the Tree Hut brand. They are available from Walmart in the US. I’ve used them for years. The sugar stays coarse, even in hot climates. I like to use a sugar scrub before shaving. The oils help the razor glide across skin. And exfoliating helps get a closer shave and prevents ingrown hairs.
  • Korean Wash Cloth– There’s nothing better than these to remove dead skin. After soaking in the tub, I add some diluted Dr. Bronners Peppermint Castile Soap to a cloth and wash as usual. I promise you, you will emerge from the tub a new person.
  • Foot Pumice– The final part of my bath and shower routine includes exfoliating my feet. The cheapest, easiest, and most cost effective way I’ve found to maintain a decent foot bottom is using a pumice stone. I like the purple ones from Mr. Pumice. A chemical foot peel is great too but a stone is good for daily maintenance in between peels.
  • Body Butter– I have to admit, I’m not great at moisturizing my whole body. I’m that chick who gets dressed and puts lotion on any body part that’s visible. Hot water can be quite drying, so I do moisturize my whole body as part of my bath routine. I’ll use an in-shower body butter or a regular whipped butter. I usually look for these types of products at TJ Maxx/TK Maxx. They are inexpensive and you can discover some gems.
  • IPL Hair Removal– This one is bit extreme…but I do use an at home IPL Hair Removal Tool. I don’t use it consistently. It should be done every few weeks. I probably pick it up every few months. Because of my inconsistency, it’s been years since I first started using it and I still have patches of hair left. I am, nevertheless, impressed with the results. I’ve had professional hair removal done on my armpits and you wouldn’t even know. They look untouched, while the areas I’ve done at home are at least patchy. I’ll probably write a more in depth post about this at a later date. In short, I’ll say as someone who is lazy with hair removal, it’s great. *note the brand I have is not on Amazon, so I have linked the highest rated product

I hope that gives you a little inspo on ways to achieve the quarantine glow up. I’ll post my updated skin care routine and hair care routine for working from home/quarantine as well.
