First Impression:

I’m currently living in the UK were they are really behind on the natural hair wave. The options and availability of natural hair products are still abysmal. When I’m in need of a product, I end up perusing the hair section of TK Maxx (TJ Maxx) for bargains. I went in one day looking for a leave in conditioner and lucked out when I stumbled on Aunt Jackie’s Quench – Moisture Intensive Leave-In Conditioner.

First impression was the liquid seemed really thin, thin even for a leave in conditioner. However, a 16 ounce (473 ML) bottle was only £5.99 ($7.90) and I figured there was no harm in trying it.

I’ve tried a few other Aunt Jackie’s products before. I *think* they are still a black owed brand which is preferred for me. While the products are made from “natural ingredients,” they do seem to be lower end ingredients. The products are inexpensive and to me, they have that look. They seem quite artificial in smell, color, and consistency. This leave-in was no exception.

Performance:

The thin consistency did bother me at first. I’m used to using creamy leave in conditioners that are usually oil or butter based (ex Shea Moisture Milk). The first and second ingredients in Quench are water and glycerin. Glycerin does not generally agree with my hair, especially in a hot and humid climate. However, the glycerin in this product didn’t really bother me in my current climate.

I found that the thin consistency was actually a plus, due to how thick my hair is. I was easily able to spread this product and I didn’t feel like it took a ton of product to coat my hair.

Overall, my hair stayed soft for a few days after using this and I think it did it’s job.

Pros:

Low price point and inexpensive cost per use. Great if you have a TON of hair like myself. It does it’s job and it’s light enough for styles that require big hair or fine/loose hair textures that are easily weighed down.

It also worked well when I layered it will gels or butters. I haven’t experienced any white build up.

Cons:

I find the scent and color quite off putting. Very runny product so it can be easy to spill.

Verdict:

I will repurchase this if I can find it. I saw it in Target on my last trip back to the States. While I did like it, I wasn’t compelled enough to stock up and lug a few bottles across the Atlantic. However, if I find it in TK Maxx here in England, I’ll definitely pick up a bottle.

You can find Aunt Jackie’s Quench Leave-In Conditioner at Superdrug in the UK and Amazon and most box stores in the US.
