I braided up my niece’s hair. It’s not often that I put mini braids in her hair because she’s restless and it takes me a few days to put these in. I braided for about an hour on Friday then finished on Saturday. Searching through the blog, I think the last time I posted pictures of her mini braids was at the end of 2012. At that time (about a year) her braids stretched to waist length on her (at 5 years old). Her mini braids now (at 6 years old) hang to about waist length and stretch to around tailbone length on her.

I did these on dry stretched (2 week old) hair. I took down each of her large two-strand twists, added oil, and detangled with my Denman brush. Each twist became 3-4 braids. The braids are different shapes and sizes but that’s not a big deal. I two strand twisted the very ends of the braids and trimmed each one just to keep her ends neat. You can see the difference compared to the 2012 braids where her ends were left loose. She’ll most likely keep these in for 6 weeks and shampoo once or twice in that time. They’ll shrink a lot after the wash so I’ll let her enjoy the hang time for at least a week.
