I vowed at some point that I would never put color on my hair again. When I went natural I was geeked at the possibility of coloring without damage since I would no longer be double processed. Well, well, well, that was not the case. About a year post relaxer, I went to an Aveda school and had my hair colored black all over with 3 streaks of peekaboo blond highlights throughout the front.

Aveda was pricier than an at home job and the experience wasn’t great. The stylist was playing in my hair because she didn’t know what to do with it and I walked out upset with dripping wet hair. That alone made me not consider going back. When my roots grew out, I touched up the highlights with an at home box color. Everything was still all good…

This is where things went terribly wrong. I was over the blond and decided to put a burgundy color all over. I choose Garnier Herbashine because I thought it was comparable somewhat to the Aveda- being that it was advertised as having natural ingredients, bamboo, etc… BIG, HUGE MISTAKE. That crap took my hair OUT! I had bald spots all over and terrible breakage here and there. I’ve used color on my hair since I was 13 and I’ve always switched brands with little to no problem. In middle school, all I could afford was the $2 box of color and that never did me wrong like this Garnier garbage.

After that fiasco, I said I wouldn’t color again. I would let my natural color grow in, especially since I haven’t really seen it. Well since my hair is high porosity it gets lightened easily as you can see in the previous post. My hair looks dull because it still has conditioner in it from DC’ing overnight, but I don’t like the color overall. I prefer a reddish brown and something a bit lighter than what it is, especially for summer. I might just bite the bullet and start using color rinses again. I’ve used Clariol’s Beautiful Collection for many years with no problems. It will help with porosity as well. I figure now that I’m out of braids, I need to figure out what I’m going to do…
