So, I finally tried a style I’ve wanted to do for years. I braided my hair mini braid style but not nearly as small as I normally do. Then I twisted it with added hair. The hair I used was quite heavy so it took a but of trial and error to get it right- I did the back section of my hair 3 different times. Aesthetically, it’s not exactly what I had hoped for…but it gets the job done.
I like the style because I get the protection of mini braids with the look and style of kinky twists. I had to braid the roots in order to stop the added hair from slipping. Because of this, the mini braids are somewhat visible. The color of the added hair is also lighter than my natural hair color which makes the braids more obvious as well. I’m unsure if I’d repeat the exact same style in the future, but I’m definitely getting my money’s worth out of it. I’ve had the style in for about a month and plan to wear it for much longer. I’m not yet tired of the style and I have been able to wash and condition my hair with the twists in.
The hair I used is linked below: (I used about 5 packs)-
Picture of my hair braided:
Round 1 and Round 2 of the twists- done Senegalese style with 2 pieces of kinky hair for each braid, then only 1 piece each. I realised it would be far too heavy and I would need 10 packs, so had to redo.

A question! So I was thinking about doing mini braids and then installing spring twists in my hair…so you think if I crocheted the hair to the base of the braid it would turn out similar to your hair? If it works I also want to try with marley hair like yours. Sometimes I feel like I dont grip well enough to do the braid around the root method like you do. Please let me know what you think! Thank you!
