I don’t know about anyone else but I like my hair to feel clean and refreshed after every workout. Unfortunately, I don’t have the time or desire to wash my hair that often. During the week, I use some sort of spray to refresh my scalp. I use to use Home Health’s Cleansing Treatment. It’s difficult to find on the ground, however. It’s not expensive, but nowadays, I use a cheaper alternative that’s much easier to procure. The spray mix couldn’t be any simpler…it’s just water and eucalyptus oil. I bought my 2 ounce bottle of eucalyptus oil from Walmart; it was only a few dollars. I can’t remember if it was near the first aid aisle or the Spanish hair and body items. You can purchase pure eucalyptus oil online from iherb.com or from Walmart, Target, drugstores, et cetera.
Eucalyptus is a great antibacterial and antifungal. When diluted, usually with a carrier oil, it can be applied to the skin. Always do a test patch before using any essential oil and each person may react differently.
What you’ll need:
- Small spray bottle (mine is a 1 ounce bottle)
- Eucalyptus Oil (100%)
How To:
This is extremely simple. I only make enough for 1 use. I fill up my spray bottle with 1/2 ounce of water. I add about a cap-full of eucalyptus oil to the spray bottle. Note- the cap for the bottle is very shallow. Taking a wild guess, it might be somewhere around a milliliter or less of oil per ounce. I shake up my mixture then spray on my scalp.
Eucalyptus oil can be an irritant if not diluted enough. I use as much I feel is necessary. Start with a few drops and work your way up to the amount you are comfortable with. You should feel a slight tingling and cooling sensation but nothing intense or overwhelming.
I use this after each work out and I cowash my hair about every 4 days. I work out at night so by the time I wake up the scent of the oil has dissipated. You will smell like a cough drop for a while though.
I do something similar. I mix tea tree oil, witch hazel and water in a 4oz spray bottle. This helps to refresh my scalp when I work out, only when I wear mini-twists. If I have a twist out, I won’t do this, because my scalp is already wet and it will mess up the style. Thanks for sharing!
Tea tree oil is a good alternative. I personally don’t use it because I’m allergic. Another thing I would caution is the quality of witch hazel. A lot of cheaper brands have a large percentage of rubbing alcohol in them.
But anyone who isn’t fond of eucalyptus can try this mix out. Thanks for sharing!
