I’ve seen a lot of vlogger videos on the topic and realized I haven’t posted or thought much about my hair goals for this year. I do have a few posts about hair length goals and expectations…but no posts concerning my hair overall. I think it will be interesting to come back to this post at the end of 2014 and see how much progress I’ve made. So here they are, my hair goals for 2014.

  • Wear more protective styles, especially mini braids. After March, I will be in back to back protective styles. Between now and March, I’m travelling quite a bit and I like to wear my hair out when I’m going out.
  • Use less heat. I tend to straighten my hair when I just can’t figure out what to do with it. I need to curb the urge to flat iron. I also diffuse my hair with every wash and go. I want to cut down on wash and goes too so diffusing won’t be an issue.
  • Use more oils and butters. I’m not very good at sealing my ends. I need to be more consistent with it. I also want to try out new butters (other than shea). I want to incorporate hot oil treatments or oil rinsing as well.
  • Focus on problem areas. I have some very short hair (maybe 3″) at my widows peak and my sideburns. I want to grow these parts out because they stick up when I wear my hair back. I also have issues with my nape. This area seems to thin and shorten every other year. I will try to protect it so it can get back to the same length as the rest of my hair. I also have some thinning ends in my crown. I think I’m very rough with that area and I also tie my hair up the same way every night…which could be part of the problem.
  • Find an all-natural, hard protein product. I still want to try Aubrey Organics products. I have sample packs from them that I need to review. I want a stronger protein option than what I already use weekly and something more natural than Aphogee.
  • Find hair perfume or styling product with a pleasant scent that lingers. I’m really big on nice smelling hair and most scents either dissipate quickly or I’m not fond of it.
  • Repurchase staples. I don’t know why I keep buying different things and not repurchasing products that I love. I need to keep my staples stocked, even if that means not waiting for a sale.
  • Finally, some length goals… Grow hair to waist length. I’m very close so this is definitely doable this year. Ideally, I would like to retain about 5″ of hair this year and get a good professional cut so my hem line is blunt with some subtle layers throughout my hair.

  1. We have some similar goals. Whenever I detangle my hair, I see areas that need work on. Specifically my nape, crown and front edges. I have been incorporating oil rinsing over the last month and change so I’m looking forward to seeing how that helps my hair. I’m working on a few other things but want to see length retention this year. Thanks for sharing! Looking forward to seeing your goals accomplished this year!
