Sometimes I feel like the way I treat my natural hair goes against all the rules. I thought it would be fun to post of list of all the things I do (or don’t do rather). I think it’s important to do what’s best for your hair…and not get so caught up with what everyone else is doing.
- I don’t wash my hair in sections. Most of the time I just can’t be bothered. Detangling time is the same whether or not I use sections but wash time is way quicker just going in guerrilla-style (term courtesy of WhoIsSugar on YT).
- I don’t moisturize or seal daily. I could probably be better at this but if my hair doesn’t feel dry, I don’t bother.
- I don’t retwist or rebraid ever. When I style my hair, I want to to last at least 3 days. I put my hair up in a pineapple at night and take it down in the morning. I don’t bother fussing with it every night.
- I finger detangle almost exclusively. I try to put away my combs and brushes. I might take them out every 2 months. In general, I do not stress about tangles.
- I don’t follow up protein conditioners with moisturizing ones (unless the directions call for it). Most DCs with protein were made to work alone.
- I don’t DC for long stretches of time or with heat. #ain’t nobody got time fo dat.
- I wear my hair down when I leave the house.
- My hair hates shea butter and I do too.
- I don’t ‘lay my edges’ down ever. They stay unruly and I’m not going to fight that.
- I don’t spend a ton of time twisting or braiding my hair. I like simple styles. From wash to putting on my scarf and heading to bed, I probably take 45 mins.
- Leave-ins and moisturizers are the same damn thing. I don’t get why some people layer so many products at a time.
- I use up one product before I buy another (I try to anyway). I hate being wasteful so I don’t purchase new stuff until I need to.
Those are all my confessions for now. What are some things you do that goes against the natural hair rules? Comment below.
