Here’s a quick rundown of how to deep condition your mini braids. I wrote my thoughts on deep conditioning in this blog post, but I didn’t cover the best method to do it.

The challenge with deep conditioning in mini braids is the conditioner has a tendency to sit on top of the hair. These steps will help prevent that.

1. Wet your hair with water. If you normally DC on dry hair, this won’t work well for braids. Rinse your mini braids in the shower or use a spray bottle to wet them.
2. Put the deep conditioner in your hands and spread it in your palms.
3. Run your palms over your braids in a downward direction in order to distribute the conditioner without causing frizz.
4. Coat all of your braids in conditioner.
5. Squeeze your mini braids lightly to encourage the conditioner to soak into the braids.
6. Cover your head with a plastic cap and wait at least 15 minutes before rinsing. This step is important to ensure the braids are adequately conditioned and the product is absorbed into the braids.
