For the past 6 years or so (as a relaxed head, natural, relaxed and natural again) I’ve deep conditioned my hair every weekend. Sure, I’ve missed a few weekends here and there but I rarely deviate from my routine. The only time I purposefully skip deep conditioning is when I’m in mini braids. I find that my mini braids hold onto moisture and I don’t need to deep condition my hair as much as I do when my hair is loose or in other protective styles.

I deep condition my mini braids about every other week. When I do DC, I usually leave the product on my hair for a few hours or overnight. Occasionally, I’ll let the deep conditioner dry in my hair. Since I use mostly natural ingredients my hair is able to absorb the nutrients in the products and there are no adverse effects to not rinsing the DC out.

If you are new to mini braids, you may find that your hair is much softer and stays moisturized longer. As a result, access your hair care regimen and only deep condition when you need to. Listen to your hair and use your best judgement. Your routine when wearing mini braids will most likely be a little different from your loose hair routine.

How often do you deep condition when in mini braids? comment below 🙂
