It’s official. I will be taking out these braids. I ultimately decided to take these mini braids out because of some tension at my roots. Each and every strand doesn’t grow in at the same rate. When moving my braids and stretching out the new growth, I felt a tug on a few strands  within the braids that did not grow out fast enough. It’s sort of hard to explain but whenever I manipulate my hair it feels like I’m pulling hard on a strand or two when really I’m not.

Here’s a view of a handful of hair that I took out last night. I initially intended to time the whole take down process but it doesn’t make sense for me to do that because I work a little at a time over many days. I plan to be done after week 8.

no build-up after about 2 months in braids

My hair was a bit dry when I took these out so I DC’d overnight with LeKair Cholesterol. I used my detangling mix on my ends, brushed them out, then undid each braid by hand.

I had no breakage in this area. I do have some shed hair-which is totally expected after all this time in braids. A lot of it came from my edges- they are super delicate and I was gentle but I still lost some hair here. The shed hair from this area alone amounted to the size of a push pin head when balled up- so not much at all. I didn’t take a pic because pics of shed hair creep me out…seriously. I hate seeing that online, lol. Take my word for it, it wasn’t much hair at all.
