If you’re concerned about braids looking scalpy (being able to easily see the parts behind the braids) one trick to help that is to make the braids smaller. A smaller set of braids will yield more braids that are able to hide parts. Here’s an example of what I mean. These are two sets of braids from 2010.

This one is a few months later in October 2010, but hair appears thinner. The larger braids mean there are less of them and fewer braids to cover the parts.
