After I took out my mini braids, I tried out the Maximum Hydration Method. I don’t think I’d do it again because the whole process took far too long. What I did like about it was using the bentonite clay rinse as a last step (I usually use it first to cleanse my hair). To style my wash and go, I used a leave in from Miss Good Hair (it’s a Kinky Curly Knot Today dupe) and the site has great sales. Over the leave in, I used Super Wet gel (one of my summer favorites). I was really lazy and wore this wash and go for about 10 days! I never go that long, but I was away from home and didn’t pack any hair products whatsoever. I just used water to reshape my curls each day. I literally packed nothing hair related (other than my silk scarf and a wire headband). My hands and some water were all I used for the 4 days I was away…actually I hadn’t done anything to my hair the prior 6 days either. And if anyone is curious, yes my hair was dry af at the end of those 10 days, lol.

If you want to read more about how the Max Hydration Method works my 4a, frizzy, porous, fine textured hair, comment below and I will try it again and document the process.

An Afro-American girl with afro textured hair. I found a method of maintaining my hair in braids that I'd like to share! :)

  1. Your hair looks fabulous – I wish I could get my daughter’s hair to hang down like that. When I’ve tried a wash&go, her over the shoulder length hair will shrink up to her ears!

    1. Thanks! My hair didn’t start to hang to shoulder length until around bra strap length stretched. I put my hair in a high bun or pineapple to keep it stretched throughout the week.

You should look into the max hydration method, it’s supposed to help the hair hang more too.

  2. Did you find the curls were poping more than usual. I would like to try. I am doing a mini braids right now. Hopefuly it will stay until 4 weeks.

    1. I think the key to the regimen is to do a bentonite clay rinse as the last step. I followed the MHM protocol and didn’t mix the clay with apple cider vinegar. I normally use bentonite clay as a first step mix it with enough vinegar to cause a chemical reaction (fizzing).

I noticed a huge change in my curls after I got a haircut. The roots of my hair were often just frizz with no definition. After the cut, the front/top of my hair looked a lot better. I noticed more change with doing the max hydration method but not as big a change as after the haircut. Looking back at the haircut pic, I do see a difference especially since this pic is of week old hair.
