I still haven’t decided if and when I will put mini braids in my hair this year. I think I want to wear buns and cross my fingers for waist length hair this year. It’s easier for me to come with articles and tutorials while I’m wearing braids.

The blog at the moment is focusing on hair in general. I do have an article I’m working on that lists tips for fine haired naturals, like myself. If you have any suggestions for articles or questions about mini braids (and hair in general) please let me know! I’m running short of ideas. 😉

  1. I have a question for you. I’ve been natural for a year and this year I would like to commit to protective styling. I’ve been wearing mini twist for the past few weeks but want to switch over to something else, my hair always seems to unravel. Do you have this problem with braiding ?

    1. That’s a great question. The answer is both no and yes. I don’t have a ‘problem’ with unraveling…per se. When my hair was around 1 year natural I wore mini braids and cowashed often because I wanted the ends to unravel. The curly ends made my hair look fuller and it was much easier to take the braids out when I was ready.

I think braids are much more resilient than twists, so if you don’t want them to unravel there are things you can do to prevent that. Before washing, group the braids in 4-8 sections and make large twists securing the ends with ponytail holders. That way you can cleanse the hair without worrying about the ends coming undone under the water. If you only cowash once a week or so, unraveling shouldn’t be an issue. I cowashed every other day to loosen my braided ends.

I hope that helps and answers your question. I wrote an article about preventing unraveling as well. http://minibraidmethod.com/2012/06/how-to-help-my-braids-are-unraveling/

      Happy hair journey! 🙂

    1. I don’t usually. I try to avoid heat…I probably blow dry only 4 times a year. Before mini braids, I air dry overnight in about 6 large braids so my hair is stretched and ready for mini braiding.
