I purchased this from CVS. There was a basket on the counter marked 90% off. The products smelled very strong and fruity. I picked up this conditioner and a matching shampoo.

First Impression:

Smells are extremely important to me when it comes to hair products. When I got home from CVS, I unscrewed the cap and took a whiff. I was very taken aback. The smell was atrocious. There was a distinct putrid underlying scent. I was really disappointed. I went to the Burt’s Bees website and emailed them my story. They quickly got back to me and said they would send out a new conditioner in the mail. I received my replacement and threw out my first bottle. It cost them more than $8 to ship and I only spent around $2 to begin with, lol. The new one smelled better but not pleasant really.

This particular item is discontinued so any left on shelves is probably old. For that reason alone I do not recommend purchasing- no matter how high the discount. If their customer care wasn’t what it was, I would have wasted my $2.

Performance:

Things started out rough. When I finally got a usable bottle of conditioner I tried it and wasn’t wowed. It was average at best. It didn’t make my hair soft but it didn’t dry it out either. I use it as a cowashing conditioner in place of a shampoo. I follow up with something better- something that leaves my hair feeling good and gives me enough slip to detangle. I thought about buying the newer version and trying it out but ultimately decided against it because there are cheaper, better options on the market.

Pros:

Customer service was great. The conditioner isn’t drying but doesn’t moisturize well- it’s good as a cleansing conditioner.

Cons:

No expiration date. All natural products should have a best used date on them. I know my bottle smelled very off but the date alone would cause me to put it back and not bother to leave the store with it in the first place.

You have to use a lot of product. It’s very thin in texture and doesn’t spread well so it can be pricey if it’s a staple product.

Verdict:

This specific item is discontinued. The newer formula is advertised as a better product. I’m curious but not that curious. I will not rebuy. I do like this brand for chap stick and lotion. I won’t buy full bottles of their hair products but would be open to samples.

I’ll review the shampoo in an upcoming post.
