Why are these called mini braids?
I’ve gotten this question a couple times and I thought it’s important to explain my reasoning…

There are a few answers to that question. I choose to label my braids “mini braids” because they are very similar to the already very popular mini twists. The parts are about the same size as mini twists which you can read about all over the natural hair community. Mini braids, to me, are synonymous to a lot of other labels given to small braids without extensions. Pixie braids are often used and I commonly referred to my braids that way. For branding purposes, I’ll use mini braids from now on. I’ve also seen box braids mentioned for braids with and without extensions. The reason I don’t use box braids or micros is because I immediately think of long braided extensions. Pinch plaits, in my opinion, or singles also refer to extensions. It’s likely no one will agree on a single term for each hair style but I think mini braids is a great descriptor for this style.
